At the ends of the Earth... Pacific Rim National Park

Backstories
The stories behind some of my songs and/or lyrics

Clear Night_/_Clear Lake

In the middle of a pitch black, deeply still night at Clear Lake I awoke with the first verse in my mind. The second followed soon after so I got up and scribbled them down. Staying at a rented cottage, the evening before had been spent enjoying an excellent view of the Pleiades meteor shower over the lake. The idea for the chanting and drumming came years later while thinking about how people have sat by water and watched the annual sky-show for thousands of years.

Meeting in the Park

A group of energetic healers met with a volunteer group of kung-fu students in a city park to demonstrate their abilities. This song is meant to evoke the memory of that beautiful experience (and in a wider sense the timeless sacred relationship between patient and healer). Hopefully the music conveys some of that primordial healing energy.

Golden Stripe (Unbroken String)

A stream-of-consciousness guitar solo - an energetic release - recorded a few hours after my last kung-fu test which followed months of hard, focused training. I was thinking of Sifu's speech about standing on the shoulders of those that have passed before us, and how the art has been passed down in an unbroken string from one teacher to the next for hundreds of years. I felt like playing so I cranked up the Coronado II and this is what came out.

Thanks

Special thanks to LA for her invaluable creative input on every single step of the process of building this site including design, text, music production, etc. and for singing on Meeting in the Park and i&iR1.

Thanks to my brother Todd for lending me a variety of recording gear - most notably his vintage Strat to play the main riff in Sir Real. I wanted an authentic 60's vibe and it delivered!

Thanks also to Chris Berry for his astute mixing advice and his golden touch in mastering the tracks on this site.
